Maree Azzopardi’s work is included in both private and public collections in Australia, Italy, Malta, the USA and recently in Sweden, including Artbank Australia, St Vincent’s Public Hospital Sydney, the Collezione Farhad in Rome, Collezione De Cecco in Pescara (Italy), The French Embassy in Valletta, Malta and Marisa Del Re Gallery in New York. She has exhibited alongside such prominent artists as Cindy Sherman, Annie Leibovitz (USA), Tracey Moffatt (Aus) and recently Vanessa Beecroft (USA) in Beyond Lilith – The Sacred Feminine, a group show in Scuderie Aldobrandini, Frascati, Italy curated by Rosetta Gozzini. She was artist-in-residence at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney in 1995 and produced her award winning Chrysalis series.
Her exhibition Celeste was part of the 2001 Australian Centenary of Federation Celebrations in Malta. An image from Azzopardi’s Momento Mori Series from Missing…From the Garden appeared on the front cover of the prestigious American art journal, ARTnews (NY) (1998) and an image from Fishworks has appeared on the front cover of Photofile (2000). In 2004 she was awarded Artist-in residence at Bundanon, the artist retreat bequeathed property of Arthur Boyd. Azzopardi was one of 5 artists representing Il Ponte Contemporanea, Rome at the Melbourne International Art Fair in Sept 2004. Azzopardi exhibited Spiritland at St James Cavalier, Valletta, Malta in 2005 as part of the Australia Day Celebrations supported by the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Malta and Emirates.
Her Italian survey exhibition The Poet Assassinated was exhibited at Galleria Zerotre, Orvieto (www.galleria03.it) in 2005 and The All Australian Show was exhibited in Galleria IL Ponte Contemporeanea in Rome and Lipanjepuntin Arte Contemporanea in Trieste alongside the works of Tracey Moffatt and John McRae and Paul Ferman, Matthew Griffin and Selina Ou. Azzopadi was awarded the 2006 Hills Grammar Art Prize for a work from her Vox Humana Series. Azzopardi will be exhibiting her new exhibition The HUMANA Series – Shadow, Relic & Flesh (2007) curated by Jonathan Turner (Italy's curator of the year) at Libby Edwards Galleries in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, simultaneously in early 2007. Also in 2007 Azzopardi was a finalist in The Blake Prize and the Willoughby Art Prize.
In 2008 she was invited to create new work for Chaos and Revelry at Counihan in Brunswick Gallery in Melbourne, curated by Edwina Bartlem and was included in the the Dubai Art Fair (www.artdubai.ae) with Galleries Direct (www.galleriesdirect.com) Azzopardi will be exhibiting at Galleria Il Ponte Contemporanea in Roma and Galleri Tapper-Popermajer in Sweden (www.tapper-popermajer.co) in mid 2008 which is proudly sponsored by Academeies Australasia Group of Colleges.
