In Operaworks (1999), Azzopardi portrays a body-builder clad in theatrical costumes. Posed in compositions reminiscent of the paintings of Rembrandt, the semi-nude man shows off a muscular figure which clearly belongs to today’s fitness-obsessed world. The decorative details and dusty atmosphere are borrowed from an earlier age.
